Iro is made for families, including children. Here’s exactly what it stores, in plain English. Nothing is ever sold.
Last updated: 11 October 2026
The short version
- No accounts, no ads, no tracking and no analytics.
- Your pictures stay on your iPad and in your family’s own iCloud.
- Online play stores only what’s needed to colour with friends.
- Clear all data in Settings deletes everything, everywhere.
What stays on your iPad
Your pictures, your Gallery and your settings are stored on your iPad.
iCloud backup
If you use iCloud, Iro backs up your progress to your family’s own iCloud account, run by Apple. We can’t see it.
Colouring with friends online
To colour with friends who aren’t nearby, Iro uses Firebase, a service run by Google. It stores:
- the display name and character emoji you chose
- a random friend code
- an anonymous ID
- your friends list
- your online and colouring status: whether you’re online, and which picture, tool and colour you’re using
- a push notification token, so we can send you invites
- the drawing strokes shared during an online session, kept in that session’s room
Colouring with iPads nearby
Iro asks for Local Network access only to find iPads nearby for colouring together. You can turn it off in Settings → Iro → Local Network.
Notifications
Iro only sends notifications for invites and, if you choose, when a friend starts colouring. That’s at most once every few hours, and never between 8pm and 8am.
Purchases
Purchases, including Iro Full, are handled by Apple.
Deleting your data
In Iro, open Settings and tap Clear all data. It deletes everything on your iPad, in iCloud and online.
Children
Iro is designed for families, including children. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking, and nothing is sold. Colouring sessions are private: someone has to be invited, or ask to join.
